The Kroger Community Rewards program makes fundraising easy by donating to the Cary PTA based on the shopping you do every day. Once you link your Card to the Cary PTA, all you have to do is shop at Kroger and swipe your Shopper’s Card! Here’s how it works:

1. Create a digital account: A digital account is needed to participate in Kroger Community Rewards. If you already have a digital account, simply link your Shopper’s Card to your account so that all transactions apply toward the organization you choose.
2. Link your card to “Lois Harrison-Jones Elementary PTA”
   1. Sign into your digital account
   2. Go to “My Account” using the dropdown menu in the upper right corner of the page under your name
   3. Go to “Community Rewards” located near the bottom of the menu on the left side of the page
   4. Enter “Lois Harrison-Jones PTA” or “MY262” as the organization you wish to support
   5. Select “Lois Harrison-Jones Elementary PTA” from the list and click “Save"

Corporate Giving: Benevity

Lois Harrison-Jones PTA is a part of the Benevity corporate giving platform. Many corporations use Benevity as their corporate giving platform including Altria, UnitedHealthcare, and others.

 If your company participates, you can set up donation matches, volunteer credits, and other types of giving based on what your company has selected. Ask your HR or benefits representative about how to set up Benevity for corporate donations.

One way to help support the Lois Harrison-Jones PTA is by making a donation. These donations go directly to help fund PTA events, purchase supplies for teachers and students, and help cover the cost of PTA-sponsored programming at the school.

Donations can either be one-time or recurring! Setting up a recurring donation of any size helps the PTA plan ahead for costs and expenses. And did we mention that as a registered 501(c)3 charity, your donation is tax deductible?

Frequently Asked Questions about PTA

Q: What is a PTA?

A: A Parent-Teacher Association/Organization (PTA/PTO) is an organization of caregivers, teachers, and sometimes staff of a school that offer support to the student community. This can be done in many ways including fundraising, student centered events, advocacy, or administrative support. Some PTA's (like LHJ's) do all of these. The purpose of a PTA/PTO is to facilitate parental involvement in the school; to support the staff of the school in educating the students; to raise funds for the school for the school's needs; and to enhance student learning.

PTAs are also recognized by the IRS as 501c(3) non profit organizations, are are run just like any other non profit organization, by our all volunteer Board. We are accountable for all of our funds raised and spent, as well as tracking donations. We have to file a 990 form at the end of each year, just like any non profit organization.

Q: How do I join the Lois Harrison-Jones PTA?

A: You can join by clicking on the "Join LH Jones PTA" menu item to the left, or you can do it through the "Forms and Payments" page. 

Q: How much does it cost to join the PTA?

A: Currently Lois Harrison-Jones offers four levels of membership. For an individual (one person in the family), it is $15 for the school year. For a family (multiple caregivers) it is $20. Teachers and community supporters are also $15.

Q: Where do my dues go?

A: A small portion of your dues to LHJ PTA go to the state and national PTA organization for their work as our parent/governing organizations. The rest goes to supporting school-wide initiatives and improvements. Examples include the school gardens, restoration of the famous red caboose, LHJ community activities, and the after-school clubs/enrichment programs.

We are also very proud of our active support of LHJ teachers and staff. Our PTA offers Teachers Night Out (2x a year), provides snacks for the teacher's lounge, supports teacher appreciation week, and hosts monthly First Fridays, when breakfast/treats are provided to all LHJ teachers and staff.

All donations to the PTA are tax-deductible through our 501c(3) non profit status.

Q: What is required of me if I join the PTA?

A: We expect our members to attend and vote in the 3 general PTA membership meetings a year, where we discuss and vote on the direction of the PTA, the budget/finances, and, at the end of the school year, on new officers for the board (as applicable). 

Other than that, there is no expected commitment. We will broadcast any needs from the school for events or support, or ask for donations for a specific item. Whether you participate or not is up to you. 

There are other ways, aside from donating your time, to support the PTA. We are always looking for donations of in-kind items (food, supplies), special skills (for example, designing a flyer for an event), or corporate/business sponsorships. All donations are tax-deductible for both individuals and businesses. We are also always appreciative of support in the classroom via our room parents and classroom volunteers, if big event volunteering is not your thing.
