Join us for a day of community, fun, and nature at Lois Harrison-Jones Elementary! We’re hosting several volunteer work day events throughout the year, where parents, teachers, and community members will come together to help beautify and maintain our school grounds and inspire our students to learn about the environment.
Volunteers will help with weeding, mulching, mowing, and watering. No prior gardening experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm and love for the outdoors! Children are welcome! We invite them to join in the effort or have a fun playdate with their friends and classmates on the playgrounds and black top.
Areas we will maintain:
- Reforestation Area
- Front Garden Beds
- Fit 4 Kids Gardens
- Community Garden Beds (20 Beds)
- Caboose Playground & Rear Playground
In addition to the gardens, there may be some other projects that we need our crews to assist on. We will update the event details leading up to each event to identify what areas we will be addressing.
- Location: Lois Harrison-Jones Elementary School, 3021 Maplewood Ave, Richmond, VA. Meet on the Caboose Playground unless noted otherwise
- What to Bring: Comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting a little dirty, gardening gloves (if you have them), and a water bottle.
- Provided: Gardening tools, plants or mulch(if needed for event), and snacks for volunteers. If you have gardening tools you can lend or prefer to use, please bring them!
Together, we can create a beautiful space for our students to enjoy, while teaching them the value of nature and teamwork!
We look forward to seeing you there!
